The previous post was out of control. I 'pologize.
Today we went to Copacabana beach. I'll let these pictures brag for me.
The craziest thing about it was that about every 20 seconds a vendor would pass by selling something different: beach wraps, shrimp on a stick, ice cream, globo (big white rice puffs that look in no way appealing), bracelets, beer, carved wood bowls, bikinis, cheese on sticks (these men walked around with grills for said cheese). I got so good at saying "nao, obrigada" from the millions of times I had to repeat it.
My new favorite Brazilian thing (bought from a vendor at the beach) is Açaí, a fruit smoothie thing with granola or honey or bananas that's apparently really healthy for you, really popular here and really good. I'm probably going to start getting it every day.
TOMORROW I start my project! I'm realizing how little Portuguese I know, and how useless most of the phrases I do know are: I won't be saying "how much does this cost?" or "the man is cooking" (thxx Rosetta Stone) so much to the kids. Still, I'm excited to begin and I'm assured the kids will be lovely despite the language barrier.
Side note: the Disney channel is actually the only channel the house gets, and everybody is getting addicted; at the moment the Jonas brothers are guest-starring on Hannah Montana. Nothing like crappy TV in Portuguese.

I love Acai! It's this delicious berry (that is really good for you too)... they sell really good acai drinks at the co op, so you'll still be able to drink it when you go back to Northfield. Although I'm sure it's not half as good as what you get on the beach.
Hannah Montana....
Leah, you're killin' me.
MISS YOU@
oh, cool, leah scanned in some postcards from where she's visiting and... oh... wait... no... she's in that one. fuck her. it's humid enough in virginia to feel like i'm swimming in an ocean, so ha!
acai is like 1,000 dollars at the co-op; i am so jealous/missin you.
Just because you doing fun things and having a good time doesn't mean that you have to rub our faces in it...shit, i got distracted by the awkwardness of the phrase "rub our faces in it" and completely lost track of what i was going to say.
WE HAVE THE SAME SWIMSUIT TOP also it looks absolutely beautiful there. wowza. and in portugal it took me a while to figure out 'obrigado/obrigada' but it's a pretty word so whatever. enjoy!
